Is fish and chips calorie-dense?

Vegan dishes are on the rise, with 21 percent of the eating out brands surveyed now offering a vegan option, up from 10% in 2010. Gluten-free terminology has increased by 89 percent in the last two years, and wheat-free choices have increased by 80 percent since last year.
All of this, of course, is part of the current trend toward healthy eating and the decision to avoid elements like lipids, particularly saturated fats, salt, and sugar, which consumers are increasingly aware are unhealthy.
According to consumer research firm Nielson, nearly two-thirds of UK consumers are cutting down on fats, while 62 percent are eating less chocolate and sugary sweets.
However, what consumers actually do and what they claim to be doing can be two different things. Consumers are dramatically underestimating the calorie content of their diets, according to the BBC.
Nonetheless, people are clearly ordering the many cuisines that are appearing on menus, and these dishes represent shifting consumer sentiments.
“Customers are now far more eager to try new meals, especially ones with purported health benefits,” said Peter Backman, managing director of Horizons.
“Food and ingredient trends are being turned into meals on high street menus faster than ever before, as operators recognize the significance of staying on top of fast-changing food fads, many of which are currently favoring healthier options and new ingredients.”
Greggs, the high-street bread chain with more shops in the UK than McDonalds, is revamping its product mix and considering selling sushi, which it claims will appeal to shifting consumer tastes.
While sushi and tuna salads are becoming increasingly popular seafood menu items, fish and chips are far from extinct.
