What kind of steak is served at WaBa Grill?
Our motivation is to make you a better dinner, period. There will be no shortcuts. Our bowls are brimming with grilled protein, fresh vegetables, and nutritious grains. There will be no microwaves, no cooking, and no artificial ingredients… ever.
Is Spicy WaBa Vegan Sauce?
It’s simple with WaBa Grill. To begin, decide whether you want a rice bowl, salad, or protein plate.
The standard rice bowl includes white or brown rice, protein of your choice, green onions, and WaBa sauce (think thick, sweet and savoury teriyaki). You may add a blend of fresh-steamed broccoli, cabbage, and carrots for $1 extra. Organic marinated tofu or the new Plantspired vegan steak are two vegan protein options.
When ordered with tofu or Plantspired Steak, both salads are vegan. Greens, carrots, cucumber, grape tomatoes, and vegan wonton strips are blended in a sesame dressing in the Signature House Salad. All of the above, plus cucumber and edamame kimchi, are tossed in a spicy Asian dressing in the Spicy Asian Salad. It’s worth noting that the ranch dressing isn’t vegan.
Rice, protein, fresh vegetables, and an orange half are included on each plate. If you don’t want to order the organic tofu or vegan steak, you can substitute extra steamed vegetables.
By default, all bowls and platters come with WaBa sauce, but there’s plenty of freedom to experiment if you want to spice things up! All of WaBa’s sauces are vegan, so if you’re looking for a kick, try the Spicy WaBa or Garlic Serrano sauces, or the Sweet Chili sauce if you want something sweet and savoury. WaBa’s house hot sauce is also vegan, so you may pile as many tastes as you like into your bowl or plate!

What’s the closest thing to WaBa Grill?
You probably live in California if you’ve heard of Waba Grill or Flame Broiler (or one of the few other places to be graced with these exclusive restaurants). Both rivals are based in California and serve healthful rice bowls that are akin to Chipotle or Qdoba. If you’re familiar with Waba Grill and Flame Broiler, you’ll see that their menu items and business logo are very similar. Offering practically identical meals such as bowls, plates, and sides, the establishments are sometimes mocked for their near-identical offerings.
True Waba Grill and Flame Broiler fans, on the other hand, would argue that there is only one rice bowl restaurant worthy of winning the Battle of the Bowls, and that restaurant is…
But First The Health Food Craze
Waba Grill and Flame Broiler aren’t your typical fast food establishments. Yes, they provide rapid and easy service, but they also appeal to the health-conscious population, which serves them well in a society obsessed with superfoods and diets. Waba Grill and Flame Broiler soon established a loyal following by providing healthy eating and dieting options, such as Paleo, South Beach, and No Carb.
Nothing is fried at Waba Grill, chicken skin is removed, and the menu dishes are prepared fresh to order utilising only the best, low-calorie ingredients available. There’s also lean beef and chicken at Flame Broiler, as well as “Healthy Modifications” for every meal, such as no bread, low calorie, paleo, and low carb (no rice).
If you’re watching your calories, carbs, or cholesterol, you’ll be pleased to learn that both Waba Grill and Flame Broiler include thorough nutrition information on their websites.
So, How are Waba Grill and Flame Broiler Different?
To the untrained eye, there is no discernible difference. However, someone who often visits one or the other might have an opinion on which rice bowl joint does it better.
For starters, the cash cow the bowl is noticeably different between Waba Grill and Flame Broiler. The dish at Waba Grill is larger and appears to contain more chicken and rice than its competition.
But wait, you didn’t think Waba’s adversary would just sit there doing nothing, did you? Flame Broiler recently altered its bowls, which were previously deeper (probably because the restaurant realised the deeper bowls make their food appear less full.)
Two, Flame Broiler offers the chicken unadorned, allowing consumers to select how much teriyaki sauce they use another tempting feature for health-conscious clients. Waba Grill, on the other hand, adds a spoonful of teriyaki sauce to the dish, making it more saucy and tasty. Customers will, of course, be free to select which one they prefer, as both allow them to add extra teriyaki sauce as needed.
Another distinction is the rice. Waba Grill’s rice is a mix of dry and soft. Flame Broiler’s rice is stickier (and sometimes wet), similar to the rice offered at most bento restaurants in Japan.
Last but not least, if you want your meal fiery, Waba Grill’s hot sauce will give your bowl a smokey, Tapatio flavour that will set it apart from Flame Broiler’s tangy, vinegary hot sauce.
The Price of Healthy Fast Food
Let’s be honest for a moment. We’re sure there are some rice bowl fans who would choose the victor of the Battle of the Bowls based just on price. And if it’s a reliable indicator, who is more expensive? Of course, it varies on what you buy from the menu, but on average, Flame Broiler is more expensive, with a Chicken dish costing $8.50 versus $7.50 at Waba Grill.
Where are They?
If location were a factor in the Battle of the Bowls, Flame Broiler would most definitely win that category, as there appears to be a chain in California alone. Orange presently has four chains, Santa Ana has three, and the number of Flame Broiler locations in the OC much outnumbers the number of McDonald’s.
Paleo Diet Samples
The majority of Flame Broiler and Waba Grill fans are either following a low carb or Paleo diet. Given that these appear to be the restaurants’ target consumers, there are numerous ways to achieve this goal.
A Paleo Dieter’s best lunch spot is Flame Broiler. The diner can order any of the various plates from the menu, with or without rice or sauce. The chicken and beef combo plate with vegetables, no rice, Magic Hot Sauce, and a dish of orange slices might be the best meal customers can have from this restaurant.
Waba Grill also caters to Paleo Dieters, offering a rice bowl with a variety of protein options such as shrimp, beef, and salmon. The chicken teriyaki bowl with no sauce, veggies, and an extra dish of grilled shrimp with avocado is a popular Paleo option.
It’s not a mouthful of flavour, but it’ll suffice. However, we’d want to know if you’re a Waba Grill or Flame Broiler fan. Please explain why in the comments section below.

How long should steak be marinated?
Steaks should be marinated for at least 30 minutes and up to 8 hours in the refrigerator. I don’t advocate marinating for any longer than that since the acidity of the marinade will begin to degrade the proteins and turn the outer layer where the marinade penetrates mushy.
