The heat of Crystal Hot Sauce disappears quickly. It really doesn’t last for more than a minute or intensify till it becomes uncomfortable. The rear of your throat doesn’t actually feel the heat; it only touches the front of your tongue and lips. Heat lovers can layer this kind of hot sauce and savor every last drop.
Crystal Hot Sauce is significantly more balanced than many Louisiana-style hot sauce competitors in terms of how well-balanced the heat is because the chili pepper mash is more forward. The tangit shares center stage, but the heat isn’t hidden behind it.

Regardless, here we are. Just now, I consumed twelve wings. Frank’s or Crystal hot sauce-coated six each. Who won the contest? Which one did I prefer? Which will I keep purchasing while the other is just a bottle in my collection of empty bottles?
Initially, some broad analogies
The majority of the ingredients are the same, with old red chilis and vinegar being the first two in both. Frank’s, however, also includes some water and garlic powder. I must admit, however, that I have never tasted Frank’s and gone, “Mmm! Garlic! So, there you go.
Even with the water addition, the Crystal has a lower viscosity. Frank’s isn’t particularly chunky (although I do have other sauces that are), but the Crystal runs more when it comes out of the bottle. Overall, it spreads on whatever you’re putting it on a little thinner.
The Frank’s, in my opinion, is merely somewhat hotter than the Crystal. Although they are fairly close, in my opinion Frank’s comes out on top there.
I will note that while I only found Crystal at Publix in that 6oz container, I can buy Frank’s at Kroger in a big bottle. Even though it’s insignificant,
I could observe that the viscosity of the application accounts for a large portion of the differences in use. Frank’s would be my choice if I wanted something a little bit thicker to adhere to meals. I would use Crystal if I wanted to thinly apply the sauce or mix it with one. Marinades? Crystal, most likely.
