Heating a Salt Block

How can you tell when your block is prepared for use? The block should be at least 500 degrees Fahrenheit if you have a laser thermometer. If you don’t, just spritz the block with a little water. The block should be hot enough if they immediately begin to sizzle.

For an electric range, choose a metal ring that is round in shape, such as a wok ring, pastry ring, or tart pan with a pop-out bottom, and set it on the burner. Top the ring with the salt block. To create a small air space between the heating element and the block, place a circular metal ring, such as a tart pan with a pop-out bottom. When ready, heat in a manner akin to a gas range.

Put your salt block on the grill grate. To expose the block to less direct heat while using a charcoal grill, keep the coals to one side and set it on the opposite side. Start the heat on low when using a gas grill, just as you would with a gas range. According to the directions for the gas range, gradually raise the temperature until the block is ready to use.

Regarding an Oven: We do not advise using an oven to heat your salt block as it may cause harm to both the salt block and/or the oven. If you want to bake on your salt plate, heat it as previously mentioned until it reaches at least 300 degrees, and then place it in a hot oven.

Your salt block will respond to every kind of food in a different way. Moisture, fat content, thickness, and block temperature are just a few variables that will affect how the salt affects the dish. Food that is moist will more quickly absorb salt, whereas food that is fat will do the opposite. Apply a thin coat of oil on the block if your food is overly salty.
