Now for the moment you’ve all been waiting for: instructions on how to produce rice flour! Uncooked rice (either white or brown), a blender, a coffee grinder, or a food processor are all required. 1 cup of rice provides around 12 cups of rice flour, according to a good rule of thumb.
How to Make Flour From Rice
- Step 1: In a blender, coffee grinder, or food processor, combine 1 to 2 cups of uncooked rice. Smaller amounts allow the blade to function more efficiently and effectively ground the rice.
- Step 2: Cover the blender and ground the rice until it’s the consistency of a fine powder. To achieve the greatest results, set the blender to the maximum setting. There should be no huge chunks in the flour and it should be smooth.
- Fill an airtight plastic or glass jar halfway with flour. If you’re using a resealable bag, make sure to push out any excess air before closing it.
- Label and date the flour, then keep it in the pantry for up to a year until you need it.
- Refrigerating or freezing the flour will extend the life of the flour for all of your future uses.
How do you grind rice flour?
STEP 1: Place the rice in a high-powered blender, food processor, or coffee grinder in increments (if using a coffee grinder, make sure it is extremely clean to avoid a coffee flavor).
STEP 2: Pulse on high for 1 minute, or until the rice is finely ground.
Make sure the lid is on because it will spill everywhere!
STEP 3: Keep the handmade rice flour in an airtight jar for up to 3 months in a cold, dry location.
Can you mill your own rice flour?
It’s easy to make your own rice flour; simply grind 1–2 cups of uncooked rice at a time in your blender! The rice should be able to be ground into a fine powder in your blender, which you can use in baking. A Magic Bullet is another useful tool to have (if you have one). (When a recipe calls for turbinado sugar, I also use my Magic Bullet to ground it.)
The only disadvantage to grinding your own rice flour in a blender is that it will wear out the motor faster than if you simply use it for smoothies. If you plan on grinding a lot of rice flour, a high-quality blender with a powerful engine or a grain grinder are also good options (or grain grinder attachment).
How do you grind rice with a grinder?
Start the wet grinder and slowly pour in 1 cup of water and the drained rice. Allow it to run for 5 minutes before adding 1 cup additional water and grinding the rice for 30 to 35 minutes, or until it is smooth yet somewhat gritty. If necessary, add water in between. I used a total of 2 cups of water to grind the rice.
How do you grind rice manually?
The rice should be slightly damp but not completely wet. Step 3: Grind the rice in 1/2 cup increments in your blender. Start with the pulse setting and let the rice settle in between 3 second pulses. Blend on high until the rice has broken down into little granules and the texture is powder-fine.
How do you make rice flour in a blender?

Place the rice grains in a blender or food processor. Pulse a few times to break up the grains. Then, on full power, blend for 30-60 seconds, or until you have a fine powder.
Allow the powder to cool for a few minutes if it becomes hot from friction before running again.
Feel the rice flour powder between your fingertips, and if it feels gritty, blend it for a little longer.
Can I use blender to grind rice?
For those who have a wheat allergy, rice flour can be used as a substitute in the kitchen. According to the Kids with Food Allergies Foundation, you can use 7/8 cup rice flour in place of 1 cup wheat flour in recipes. Rice flour can be used to make muffins, cakes, and bread. While rice flour is available for purchase, you can also grind white or brown rice into flour in a blender. When opposed to white rice, which is grainier, brown rice has a richer flavor.
