- To keep the milk cool while it combines, we put some ice in the second amount of water. Because you’re blending your milk for a long time to make it extremely smooth, it may heat up, especially if you’re using a high-powered blender like the Vitamix. If you can, use some ice to prevent your raw vegan almond milk from overheating and being no longer raw.
- You are not have to strain your nut milk, although I strongly advise it. Offer water as a nutritious beverage option in addition to breast milk or formula at 6 months of age. Cow’s milk can be given to your infant’s diet after the age of one (22).
Plant-based drinks, with the exception of soy milk, are naturally low in protein, fat, calories, and a variety of vitamins and minerals, including iron, vitamin D, and calcium. These nutrients are necessary for development and growth (23, 24).
Almond milk has only 39 calories per cup, 3 grams of fat, and 1 gram of protein (240 ml). This is insufficient for a developing infant (5, 24).
Continue to breastfeed or see your doctor for the best nondairy formula if you don’t want your kid to swallow cow’s milk (23).
May contain additives
Sugar, salt, gums, tastes, and lecithin and carrageenan can all be included in processed almond milk (types of emulsifiers).
Texture and consistency are achieved by the use of emulsifiers and gums. Unless ingested in really large quantities, they are harmless (25).
Despite this, a test-tube study indicated that carrageenan, which is often used as an emulsifier in almond milk and is generally considered harmless, may disturb intestinal health. Before any judgments can be drawn, however, further thorough research is required (26).

It only takes a few minutes. After that, add a quart of water to the mix. Cheesecloth, a fine mesh strainer, or a clean dishcloth are used to drain the resulting milky liquid. If you’re really into it, invest in a Nut Milk Bag, which is designed specifically for draining the nut combination. Give it a good squeeze to get all the white liquid out, and you’re set to go. Refrigerate until completely cold, then use as you would dairy milk. I wouldn’t lie to you if I said it wasn’t quick and easy, or that it wasn’t wonderful.
Some individuals like to add a touch of vanilla and/or a little sweetener, such as honey. I prefer mine to be unadorned.
Taste Test Results:
I put my homemade almond milk up against three of the most popular brands: Silk, Almond Breeze, and Califia Farms. You can get almond milk with added flavors and sweeteners, but I went with the plain versions of each. I’m happy to say that all four were enjoyable and deserving of your time. I’ll set out the small distinctions for you here, in the hopes of assisting you in making a decision based on your tastes.
Overall Best: It’s no surprise that My Homemade came out on top. It was light and refreshing, with a hint of raw almond flavor.
Children’s favorites: The Silk came out on top since it was a little thicker and sweeter than the others. Start here if you’re terrified of almond milk. This one would be fantastic in sweet recipes such as cocoa, puddings, and other desserts, as well as on kid’s cereal.
Most Neutral: Almond Breeze was the most neutral, and thus the most similar to ordinary milk, in my opinion. It has the weakest flavor and scent of the four.
Color: They were all about the same shade of slightly off white. The whitest was Homemade, while the darkest was California Farms.
The Homemade had the lightest viscosity. Silk was the thickest and, at least for straight sipping, was too unnaturally thick for my taste. It would be suitable for desserts such as milkshakes, rice pudding, or something similar.
Separation: The Homemade separated rather rapidly after sitting. Over the course of an hour, the other three remained homogenized. All almond milks should be shaken or stirred before drinking.
The aroma of the Homemade is that of raw almonds. The scent of silk is nice and faintly toasted. Califia Farms has a peculiar odor that I can’t pinpoint and dislike. Almond Breeze had the least fragrant of the three, equating it to ordinary milk.
Almond Flavor: The freshest, most delightful raw almond flavor came from the Homemade. Almond Breeze came in second place. I didn’t care for the aftertaste of the Califia Farms. Almond Breeze had a bland flavor.
This is just my opinion, but they’re close, so if you’re curious, I recommend giving them all a try and deciding for yourself.
