Creating almond milk is the first stage in making almond meal from almond pulp. Unlike most store-bought almond milks, our Homemade Almond Milk is simple to make and delivers a rich, creamy beverage with a significant number of almonds.
The almond pulp is next dried at a low temperature in the oven, allowed to cool overnight on the counter, and then processed into almond meal in a food processor or high-powered blender.
What can you do with leftover almond milk?

A strainer balanced over a sink with a bowl underneath can be used to place the straining bag inside and enable the almond milk to drain. Squeeze the bag to get the leftover liquid out after the mixture has drained for a few minutes. (Don’t throw out all that milk; you’ll be astonished how much is left in there!) Store the milk in an airtight jar in the refrigerator for up to a week. The leftover almond pulp in the straining bag can be composted or used to make almond butter.
What can I do with the almond meal I have?
We’ve already discussed how healthy homemade almond milk is, but there’s another benefit to creating your own fresh almond milk: the almond meal that’s left over. You may use it to add nutrition and taste to your baking and culinary recipes in a variety of ways. I need additional protein all of the time because I’m now breastfeeding my baby. Adding a little almond meal to my diet has been a terrific method to boost my protein intake.
You may use the remaining almond meal to make a variety of other dishes. Wet almond meal, the raw product left over from fresh almond milk, is the first (and easiest) option. The second is almond flour produced from scratch.
I like to freeze almond meal in muffin tins, then transfer the frozen almond “muffins” to a freezer-safe bag. That way, I can take one out at a time and store it in the fridge for a few days. Here are some of my favorite uses for almond meal:
- In a fruit smoothie, add up to 1/2 cup of leftover almond meal. I’d start with two or three Tablespoons and work my way up to make sure the texture is to your liking.
- Into heated oatmeal, add a few Tablespoons of almond meal. A handmade fruit butter, syrup, jam, conserve, compote, or pomegranate molasses can also be added.
- Into the yogurt, add a couple Tablespoons of almond meal. You can also use any of the fruit add-ins provided for oats.
- Spread the almond meal over chopped fruit, along with sucanat or similar natural sugar, butter or coconut oil. For a basic fruit crumble, bake until the almond meal is golden and the fruit is bubbling.
- Make a cheese ball out of the almond meal. You may make a cheese mummy or a cheese snowman using the same method.
- You may alternatively prepare the cheese ball without the almond meal and then roll it in the almond meal for a more decorative finish.
- Before baking your favorite homemade granola recipe, add 1/2 cup almond meal.
- Almond meal can be used to make a gluten-free breadcrumb topping for casseroles.
- Almond meal can be added to vegetable or bean dips such as Pea, Carrot, or Fava Bean Dip.
- Fresh strawberries are dipped in molten chocolate before being rolled with raw almond meal. This is ideal for Valentine’s Day!
It takes a little longer to turn leftover almond meal into almond flour, but there isn’t much active work involved. You can keep your almond meal and/or flour in the fridge for a few weeks or in the freezer for 3-4 months once you’ve baked it.
Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper and spread the almond meal out on it to make your homemade almond flour. Bake for 2-4 hours at 200 degrees Fahrenheit, depending on how much you have. Using a spatula or wooden spoon, stir the meal occasionally. When it’s entirely dried and crumbly, it’s done. Take a look at the texture of your almond meal now.
If you keep the baked almond meal coarser in texture, you may use it in most of the raw almond meal recipes listed above, and it will provide a great roasted nut flavor. However, I wouldn’t use it in recipes that call for almond meal, such as granola, casseroles, or meat crusting. It’s possible that it’ll catch fire. You may also make your own almond butter with this recipe!
Pulse the roasted almond meal in a food processor or blender until it achieves your chosen texture if you want to use it like flour. To use in baking, I grind my almond flour very finely. You can use your handmade almond flour to replace up to half of the all-purpose or whole wheat flour in baking recipes (bread, cookies, crumbles, crackers, etc.).
This type of almond flour with the skins in it, according to what I’ve read (I haven’t done a lot of baking with homemade almond flour yet), works better in rustic recipes like breads, crumbles, or possibly a rustic fruit tart. What is the best way to store leftover almond pulp?
If you plan to repurpose the leftover almond pulp, keep it in the fridge for approximately a week in a sealed container or bag.
If you want to use it later but don’t think you’ll be able to do so within a week, freeze it in a sealed bag or container until you need it.
To defrost the frozen almond pulp, simply place it in the fridge until softened, or place it in water to thaw faster if necessary.
Does almond pulp have any nutritional value?
While preparing almond milk has reduced the nutritious content of the pulp, there is still a lot to gain from eating it. The residual pulp includes fiber, protein, carbs, and healthy fat, among other macronutrients. Calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, potassium, selenium, vitamin E, and zinc are among the micronutrients. The macronutrients, particularly fat, aid in the absorption of the micronutrients in question. Furthermore, almond pulp is a high-quality energy source that can keep you full for a long time.
Is almond pulp beneficial to plants?
Composting Leftover Pulp is Option #1. The garbage from your yard and kitchen can then be utilized as soil to feed your plants with the nutrients they require to flourish, generate food, and release oxygen once your compost pile is ready.
